"Quakers" 39th Annual International Gift Shop 12/3-4

I went to this show at the Milwaukee Friends Meeting house. A beautiful building situated on the Anita Koenen Land Preserve where you can see the Milwaukee River. They have a garden there too. I took some pictures of the land behind the building. http://www.milwaukeequakers.org/

Miniwaukan Park, Mukwonago

It was an extraordinary warm November day. Almost 70 and sunny with a light breeze. Very little humidity so the acrylics dried fast. A lot of kids skipping rocks, playing frisbee golf. Very friendly.

2 more acrylic paintings of North Point Water Tower area

5x5 and 7x5.

Finished 2 acrylic paintings of North Ave water tower

4x6 and 5x5. Tried to catch the way I remember the evening summer light looking when I was there earlier this year in August.

Used Utrecht's ultramarine blue, burnt sienna, cadmium yellow lemon and titanium white mixed with acrylic medium retarder gel so it doesn't dry too fast. In between painting sessions I put the palette between 2 plates in the fridge.

Big Bay Park, Whitefish Bay

This park is on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. It was quite cool up at the top so took the wide paved path down to the beach and then sheltered from the wind we were quite comfortable. I'd like to go back here. This is probably the last Wednesday morning I will be painting outside as it's getting too cold for my northside set of friends. However, I will still be painting outside once a week with my Mukwonago friends like we did last year. So pretty soon we will be painting snow.

Mukwonago Canoe Launch on Holz Parkway

Cool and sunny but warm enough to take off my coat after I started painting. Couldn't find my white at first, (it was hiding under my rag) so was letting the white of the canvas show though. Also a picture of me painting.

DNR access trail to Vernon Marsh, 6x6 acrylic on canvas

Quite balmy 66F & humid. There are springs here where the water bubbles right up from underground.

Sunday, October 24, 2010

Calhoun Park Pond 6x6 acrylic

It was rainy, humid and cool about 55 so the paint took longer to dry.

Lincoln Parkway, 5x7 acrylic on canvas

We went down into the riverbed to stay out of the wind. Not quite winter coat & glove weather yet but cool. No biting insects but I did see a cricket.

Lower Phantom Lake at End of Lake Rd. Mequon

6x6 acrylic on canvas

Also here is a picture of my gear I've been using lately when painting acylics outdoors. I love my guerilla box and tripod. I also like the bamboo brush carrier. I clean my brushes on the spot with Masters soap which I leave in. I just rinse my brushes before using. I use rags not paper towels. I carry my canvases in my back pack along with insect repellent, allergy medicine and a cheap plastic rain poncho. Generally I wear layers. Hat, bandannas, vest, sweat jacket, windbreaker, long pants with pockets, t-shirt or turtle neck, long sleeve shirt. Don't generally wear shorts because of the insects. Mosquitoes, flies and gnats were still out up to last week. Now the weather is cool enough yet not too cold.
