Tori, 9x12, conte crayon, 2/19/19

A very good model!
Sat very still while listening to her phone.
Very pale, nice skin.
Gave her the sketch. That's what most of us do at sketch club.

Could only talk and sketch for an hour.

Missed sketching with my buddies last week because I had to take mom to a doctor.

Nikkie 9x12 oil pastel (5/14/1983 - 2/13/2019) painted 2/14-2/15/18

At first started with this but couldn't get the detail I wanted with oil pastel.

Here's a sequence of pictures while making the picture

The last one was shot at night under the new florescent light bulbs. Previous ones were shot during the day. Right now due to the snow and cold, our daylight coming in the windows is very blue here. It is interesting to see how the season affects the color of light.

Some interesting art books:
  • Wisconsin in Watercolor, the life and legend of folk artist paul seifert by Joe Kapler isbn: 978-0-87020-891-1
  • The Simple Secret to Better Painting, how to immediately improve your art with this one rule of composition by Greg Albert isbn: 1-58180-256-0
  • The Yin/Yang of Painting by Hongnian Zhang and Lois Woolley isbn: 0-8230-5983-9
One of my podcasts mentioned overlaying wax paper on photos of paintings and drawing with sharpie on the wax paper. It actually works.

9x12 pencil sketches starbucks 2/1/19

More practice sketches. I try to sketch even though life is keeping me busy. Weather is not cooperating for taking pictures. Extremes from 0F to 40 with sleet. Once I fill up sketchbooks I need to discard them due to lack of space. So this blog has morphed into a imperfect record of an art practice.
