I did a regular pencil sketch, then used my fine eraser to get the water. Then added the Derwent Inktense watercolor pencil. Burnt Orange, Willow, Paynes Gray, and Fern.

Was waiting for mom so decided to do a little doodle wash based on Charlie Shield's photo.

Couldn't scan this in so took multiple pictures. Best one was shot vertically in the shade but still too blue so had to desaturate it. It was very sunny day.

Went and sat with painting buddy. At first didn't know what to sketch, then the backlit bushes caught my eye and I did them. I like the strong color and value contrasts of this painting.

Final version with color swatches

Still working out the shapes. Rocks on left caught my eyes and became too large

Plein air version with limited pencil selection. They were too bright. Plus I was distracted by the tree reflections. A friend lent me some grays to help tone it down. When I got home I worked on and ruined the plein air painting. Then I decided to test the Derwent inktense grays and decided on Charcoal, a greenish gray, and Paynes, a purplish, bluish, gray.

4/9/21 Daffodil 7x10 intense watercolor pencils

Terry brought in a daffodil so I drew that instead of people at Brookfield square.

Testing out my intense pencils for my travel kit. I think I will take out hooker's green and add a purple.

One of my friends brought in this chart all filled out. Originally it was for prismacolors? I'd like to study it. It looks like black and darker colors in the middle of the color wheel with colors getting lighter as you go out?

Catching up on posting again.

Tried to add LED lamplight to sunlight coming in window but the yellow lamp light color didn't match blue sunlight.

hockey 4x6 pencil 3/6/21

 

It's entertaining to watch the hockey players hop over the barricade like popcorn being popped to get on the ice. They just use the gates to return to the players pen not to leave it.
