I'm a little bit behind on posting. Been doing a sketch almost everyday.
Went through my picture pile, threw away about half and gave about half to one of my sisters to do with as she pleases. Got to make room for new creations. I read about an artist who burns his old pictures. Sounds like a fun thing to do but I think if I think the neighbors would call the fire department if I did that.

Pencil Sketches a-e & 1928 Buick Touring Car in 5.5 x 8.5" sketch book
Sometimes you just got to make time to draw. These were done with a cheap mechanical pencil. The hand is live, the Buick is from a picture on a calendar.

18 x 12 oil pastel
Struggled a bit with this. Model was excellent and sat very still. I think I like painting side views the best. I like the feel of oil pastels but they are less forgiving than acrylics and regular pastels.

18 x24 pastels
This guy was so wiggly that I just did a quick sketch then switched to the undraped side which has very short poses.

18x12 acrylic
Still working with white, green and orange. His shirt didn't have button down collar this week. The people who were there last week noticed that.

Juanita, 18x12 acrylics from sketch club on 10/21 & 10/28
I think the skin color on the face is probably more true on the first one.
The 2nd one is a side portrait and I limited my colors to 4 tubes of paint, white, orange, green, and red.

6x8 acrylic Fox River Bridge
We planned to go the Steaming cup in downtown Waukesha. However, it was pretty nice out today so I went west on Main Street and parked just before Veterans Park. I really liked the bridge. People were very friendly and nice here.
Used both yellows and both blues to make greens but still can't find the right green. No Alizarin today as trees were more yellow, brown, and green here.

Minooka park 8x8 acrylic 10/9/14
Used both yellows and alizarin crimson to get the tree colors.
along with ultramarine blue, burnt sienna and white.
I wonder if I would get a better green with cerulean blue. I'll have to try that next time.
Weather was perfect. Sunny, started out at about 50 F with a stiff breeze strong enough to blow my palette into the water. Gary couldn't keep his umbrella open and Carol bungied her umbrella so it wouldn't blow over. I wore vest and raincoat with fingerless gloves and was comfortable. Of course no bugs. This weather makes me want to be outside.

Here's a piece I put in my friends The Martini Girls show. You had to use a paper bag. I went to the opening. The art was very interesting and excellent. I had a fun time making my piece.

2 acrylic Sketches at Wauwatosa center down the hill from Firefly on 8/14/14
Just catching up on posting. Still managed to paint but too busy to post. Just digging out now.
Only Roger and I showed up. He went up and sat on the bridge over the river. A lot of people were there but all were very polite.

Harley Davidson Museum 8/12/14, 6x8 acrylic
Been using the same paint by spraying with golden open thinner and putting in the fridge.
Haven't had to use a damp paper towel all summer to keep paints moist. In the past I was working with the fast dry because the summers were hot and dry. This summer I am learning to work with paint that stays wet and doesn't dry on the canvas.

6x8 acrylic, Waukesha Riverwalk 7/25/14
Ok, now I'm caught up on posting my plein air paintings up to this one.
I used the exact same colors, titanium white, cad yellow medium, burnt sienna and cerulean blue that were left over from last week's painting in this painting. However as I'm looking at these last two paintings this one feels warmer, maybe because the yellow and burnt sienna is more prominent while the army lake one has more white.
I like painting water. Cerulean blue mixed with burnt sienna made a real nice dark gray. With the approaching storm the water became more gray as the morning progressed. I like the dark green I made with these colors but I think I need to use a different yellow in partnership with the current yellow to better capture the wide variety of greens found this wet and cool summer.
It's still pretty cool (70s) and very humid (upcoming rain) so despite the steady medium light breeze I was still fighting the slow dry of the golden open acrylics. I haven't added any retarder to slow the dry or keep the paints wet longer. I like using golden open because you never know what the conditions will be like outside. Some of the thicker painted parts of the paintings were still tacky on Sunday.
It's interesting that water from the fountain is translucent. The fountain interrupted the current and it's falling water created a ring around it.

9x11 watercolor sketch at Colectivo Coffee, Milwaukee Lakefront
Decided to bring prange watercolors as I thought I would be sitting at a table but ended up sitting in grass. Lakefront was very busy! Ramp to lakefront was closed. Better to come here during weekday mornings.

Hart Park watercolor sketches 6/10/14
9x11 prange watercolor and prange brush (which worked better than I expected.)
CPP International "Impressions" Sketch book
It was drizzling very lightly on and off. You can see where the rain drops hit my last sketch. That's why I did watercolor rather than pastel. It was fun.
